New Jersey's LibertyHealth has deployed Meru Networks’ wireless LAN solution in its hospitals to provide facility-wide wireless access to staff, patients and visitors. Hospital officials say they can now provide the reliability essential to a wide range of wireless applications, including bedside patient registration, video-based translation services for non-English-speaking patients and supply inventory.

El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) in California has been honored with an InfoWorld 100 award for its deployment of an Aerohive wireless LAN to support a wide range of applications, including mission-critical systems in the emergency room and operating rooms, the hospital information system (HIS), and quality review management software.

Pleasanton, Calif.-based Trapeze Networks has unveiled new wireless condition monitoring capabilities for its ActiveAsset asset tracking and management application. ActiveAsset is an key part of the Trapeze Medical program. Now, in addition to being able to track and manage equipment, personnel and patients, the application helps meet regulatory requirements for monitoring temperature fluctuations of medical refrigeration and freezer units.

Burlington, Mass.-based Bluesocket is targeting healthcare and other key markets with the release of its new Virtual WLAN offering. The provider of enterprise mobility solutions designed the vWLAN to leverage existing network infrastructures to deliver a fully integrated and optimized wireless solution that will reduce the cost of deploying and operating large-scale Wi-Fi networks while, at the same time, boosting performance.

Having wrapped up advanced integration and interoperability testing, Ruckus Wireless and Wi-Fi-based RTLS vendor AeroScout are set to target healthcare and other industries with an RTLS solution that integrates into Ruckus'  ZoneDirector Smart WLAN controller.

While there are some clear and easy wins for wireless edge applications, such as healthcare, parlaying this success into the broader enterprise market hasn't been easy--and this is exactly what 802.11n should fix.

Memorial Medical Center, an 87-bed community hospital in western Michigan, has implemented 802.11n wireless LAN technology from Motorola's enterprise mobility solutions business. Motorola teamed with systems integrator Lowry Computers to complete the implementation.
